Meet Shayla Smith, a full-figured woman who has terrible taste in men. Her last boyfriend stole both her money and her car, so when she found her car sans boyfriend, she took off and drove until the little town of Prather to start over. And, oh yeah, Shayla can turn into a white Palomino filly.
Meet Dex Legend, handsome stallion. No, really. Dex is a black stallion shape-shifter aching to find his mate. He spots her one morning, but she gets away and he can’t concentrate on anything else.
Shayla thinks she is the only equestrian shape-shifter left. Being in heat just adds another complication to her life. She is edgy and restless, so she heads down to the local watering hole, Rail, were she meets Dex. Dex knows immediately that she is a shape-shifter and also his mate. A night of intense passion scares Shayla and she sneaks out. Feeling the urge to shift, she drives to a meadow filled with other horses. She sorts through her feelings and realizes she wants to find out where a relationship with Dex can go. Before she can shift back and return to him, she is corralled and put up for auction to be bought by a set of handsome blonde twins. How will she get back to Dex?
I really enjoyed this book. The plot was fast-paced and kept my attention. The dialogue had some funny moments, as well as some tender ones, and the sex was scorching (especially the scene were they were mating as horses). Both of the main characters were very well-developed; the thoughts that Shayla had were very realistic, and I loved that Dex was such an alpha-male. The secondary characters played an interesting part, and I would love to see a continuation with their stories. All in all, I can’t wait to read more by Ms. Sinclair.
