Lady Georgina Maitland, Mistress and Owner of Woldsly Manor, has often been considered flighty and quite irksome. It is simply not proper for a woman to not only own such a large estate but to run it by herself.

Harry Pye, her Steward, has been fighting and clawing his way back to Yorkshire for many years, and though he would like to get revenge on Lord Grayville, he cannot afford to throw away everything he has.

England, 1760. Someone is poisoning the local farmers’ sheep and causing trouble for Lord Grayville, and everyone is blaming Harry of the crimes. Lord Grayville had treated Harry and his father wrongly in the past, while Harry's return to the countryside marked the beginning of the assault and is causing everyone to believe he is responsible.

Is Harry responsible? How does the leopard prince play into the tale? And will Georgina finally know what it means to be a woman? To find out the answers, you have read THE LEOPARD PRINCE.

Ms. Hoyt, also writing under Julia Harper, is a treasure when it comes to recreating the past and she does not fail in THE LEOPARD PRINCE. Though it is a well-told story, the beginning has a slow pace. The end is all you will expect it to be, and in the end, that is all that matters.

Penelope Price, or Penny as her family and friends call her, is a Lieutenant and Physical Therapist in the Navy. Penny and her sister Lia have had a hard time of it lately and Penny has been taking care of Lia for a very long time. Penny is almost ready to say no the next time Lia calls but the fear in her voice convinces Penny to take her in again. It seems that Lia called the man both girls suspected of foul play in their father’s death and told him he should be ashamed. Lia is definitely the more outgoing of the two and this time Lia may have gone to far.

After a few threatening calls, Penny and Lia decide to go to the FBI and ask for their help. Penny goes one step farther and calls on her neighbor, the sexy, hot, and a little disturbed Navy SEAL Lieutenant Commander Joe Montgomery. Joe has a few demons of his own, since his last mission went fatally wrong. However, Joe somewhat grudgingly respects his neighbor and decides to help her out.

Penny has had a thing for Joe for a long time, and with some pushing and prodding from Lia, she decides to make the first move. The only problem is that Joe doesn’t want to trust anyone with his problems or Penny. Joe makes this problem even worse by trying to push her into the arms of other SEALS. One in particular shows a great interest and now Joe wonders what he was thinking when the Shark began circling his prey.

Can Penny and Lia stay alive long enough to find happiness, will the FBI catch the Killer before its to late, and will Joe finally realize what has been in front of his face all along?

The secondary characters in this story are unbelievably real, Ophelia or Lia and Vinny though secondary to Joe and Penny have their own love triangle and you find yourself not sure who you want to read about next, Penny and Joe, or Vinny and Lia.

What a wonderful and insightful treat in the world of Navy SEALS, Ms. Melton has captivated this reviewer and I personally cannot wait to find out more about her and her Navy SEAL series.

Meet Becca Gibbs and Nick Rawlings. Becca is Satan’s number one Rivka. Rivka’s are trapped to Satan's essence for all eternity. Becca has been harvesting souls for Satan for a very long time, one hundred years to be exact. She has killed and tortured someone very near and dear to her. She has also seen the jealousy in Satan’s eyes when anyone shows her concern.

Nick is a Markku, a being also created using Satan’s life force. Nick’s family and race were once Satan’s top assassins, souls stealers, basically whatever Satan bid the Markku had to do. However, the Markku escaped Satan’s control and now they are to be hunted down and destroyed.

Becca may have to follow Satan’s order but she has spent the last century finding loopholes to get her own way. The time has come for Becca to try to free herself from his life force and control. Satan finds out about her plot and decides that maybe he doesn’t need his top Rivka anymore. He sends Becca her own replacement to train.

During this wild and exhilarating ride to freedom, Becca and Nick meet. Nick is a half healer and as such his emotions are stronger than any she has ever met. His emotions are so strong that they begin to leak into Becca with the lightest of touches. This may not be a good thing, because everyone knows that Satan doesn’t share and all these new feelings of love and caring are going to get someone killed. Not to mention the purely evil souls trying to get revenge on Becca by killing her. And Nick has problems of his own. Will Becca get away from Satan? Will Nick save his people? Is there enough love in the universe to overcome all of the obstacles? The only way to know for sure is to read the book; be warned you will not be able to put it down.

Ms. Rowe has created a world not that much different than our own, which allows the reader to feel even more connected to the story. Don’t let the fact Satan play a role in this tale keeps you from reading it. The bowels of Hell are just as terrifying as you would expect, yet the love shown throughout the story gives you the impression that maybe it can and will concur all. This tale is the ultimate testament and example of good being inside everyone and that good will find a way to escape evil no matter the cost.

KITTY TAKES A HOLIDAY by Carrie Vaughn

Burned out? Not ready to face the public? Got offered a book deal and need peace and quiet to write in? Do the Walden thing!

And that’s exactly what Kitty does. But she doesn’t have a pond to look at near her little cabin. Just lots of trees. As for peace and quiet, it doesn’t happen. Not when the friendly greeting at her nearest grocery store is having a gun barrel in her face. Nor when dead animals appear on her door step. Before long though, her ideals of peaceful solitude are completely shattered when Cormac comes calling with his mauled friend and lawyer, Ben O’Farrell, in his arms.

As Kitty attempts to acclimate Ben to his new life, things around the cabin get even freakier, particularly when Kitty sees something with red eyes in the woods, and a circle of barbed wire crosses are found circling her rented cabin.

While the sexual tension between Kitty and Cormac sizzles, the sex that goes on between Kitty and Ben pops! When Cormac can no longer handle it, he takes off, but sends someone to help Kitty find out what’s been going on. When it becomes apparent that a great evil has taken root, and Cormac is arrested for shooting a woman, Kitty and Ben take off for New Mexico to find out if Cormac’s victim really was just some crazy woman in a wolf’s skin, or something far worse.

Yay! Another stunner from Ms. Vaughn. This book was a little more serious than the previous one, but still very much so worth the read. The surprise of Ben’s wolfhood definitely got my attention!

The sex scenes are perfect, in my humble opinion. Descriptive without being crass or too over the top. It’s a hard line to walk, and yet Ms. Vaughn makes it look easy. She also creates a page-turning plot with the appearance of great ease. The answer of one mystery simply leads one to the question of another, leaving the reader wanting more Kitty, and more of her world.

Somehow, Ms. Vaughn is able to make her characters and settings very real. It’s obvious that some research has gone into her works, as the subject of skin walkers is very difficult and touchy to deal with.

I applaud your work and am waiting with no small amount of impatience for more! Keep it up Ms. Vaughn!

“Burn the heathens!” This seems to be the public outcry now that Kitty and her kind have been outted. But what can you do?

Kitty gets a call from Ben O’Farrell, her lawyer, and finds out that she’s been subpoenaed by the Senate to testify in Washington D.C. about her place in the order of “paranatural biology”. Since she’s been run out of Denver, Kitty’s been broadcasting “The Midnight Hour” all across the country, and now, she’s headed to Washington.

When she reaches D.C., she is quickly convinced to accept the Old World hospitality of Alette, Vampire Mistress of the City. Just as quickly, she is urged to shun the local weres, who are considered dangerous without an Alpha.

While Alette tries her best to keep Kitty safe, our favorite lycanthrope keeps herself moving. She meets up with the local were community, and quickly bonds with Luis, a Brazilian wereleopard who makes Kitty purr.

Kitty meets many interesting people at the hearings, including Senator Joseph Duke, who is convinced that the members of the paranormal world are the spawn of Satan; Dr. Paul Flemming, who headed up the Center for the Study of Paranatural Biology; Jeffrey Miles, a communications facilitator – read psychic; and the elusive Elijah Smith, the Faith Healer, or is he something more sinister?

Ms. Vaughn has hit just the right note with me here because she tells us more about Kitty as a person, with all of her thoughts and feelings. Again, the romantic element to this book isn’t necessary to keep the plot going, although it most certainly makes it a helluva hot read! I’ve read this book twice, and it had me hooked both times.

I’m impressed – yet again – with Ms. Vaughn’s ability to spin a tale and keep me on the edge of my seat the whole time, and sometimes even falling off it while I laugh my buns off. I highly look forward to reading more work by Ms. Vaughn because I know that she will provide something new, fresh, and exciting every time. Well, that and she’s an amazing author.

This book is one sweet read. Ms. Vaughn, I’m eagerly awaiting more of your work. It’s insanely awesome!

KITTY AND THE MIDNIGHT HOUR by Carrie Vaughn

KITTY AND THE MIDNIGHT HOUR

Fantasy/Paranormal

RATING: 4 Enchantments

A closet werewolf as a night DJ sounds a little fantastic. But in KITTY AND THE MIDNIGHT HOUR, Kitty Norville is a closet werewolf night-DJ. She inadvertently turns her program into an advice arena, giving vampires and weres a place to call in and talk, while keeping her mouth closed about her own issues…Like not telling her mom why she couldn’t make family events. Major guilt!

While ratings on the show skyrocket, Kitty’s Alpha is none too pleased with the publicity, and neither is the local vampire Family Master, Arturo. Both are afraid that Kitty’s show will prompt a witch hunt and send everyone running for cover. The Alpha, Carl, insists that Kitty quit the show, but she won’t give up something that is finally hers and not the pack’s.

Soon Kitty receives a call that has her scrambling for cover from a bounty hunter who sounds only too confused about why he’s hunting a non-rogue werewolf.

The plot only thickens when a lesser vampire comes to Kitty to find out about a traveling Faith Healer who claims to heal Vampires and Weres, and the pack hierarchy seems to come undone.

Who set the bounty hunter on Kitty and why? Who is the Faith Healer from whom no one returns? Kitty is bound and determined to find out.

The title kind of threw me off, but the book is excellent! Ms. Vaughn can spin a tale. The real rollercoaster ride is in how this book is written. You come to a pressing conclusion in the book, and you think, ok, we must be done. But you turn a page, and lo and behold, here’s another piece of the puzzle to be solved! I love it.

The sudden discovery of Carl’s true nature seems a bit abrupt, but I suppose that if it’s that way for Kitty, it should be that way for us.

There is a hint of romance here, but it doesn’t overpower the story, nor is it key to keep it moving. A perfect balance has been struck.Kitty reminds me of mystery-solving Stephanie Plum, in a Sookie Stackhouse world, with a Meredith Gentry attitude.

Miss Vaughn, you rock my socks! Keep it up!!!
