Our hero Gautier is a man with a painful past. He feels a lot of guilt for things he has done. He can think of only one way to atone for it, by becoming a man of the cloth. He has not taken any vows yet, but still feels bound by them until the night he meets Charlotte. Things will never be the same again. He feels an immediate attraction to her unlike any he has ever felt in his life. And this attraction will not be denied.

Two people are drawn together by circumstances neither can control and kept together by feelings they cannot deny. This is a very turbulent time in both of their lives - full of hate, betrayal, and deception, but most of all love. And in the end, only that will save them.

I really loved this story because it was like the ones I read as a teenager. It had handsome knights and lovely ladies. But it was a little different because the hero was a man of the cloth who was the one falling in love and the knight was the bad guy. The hero was very mysterious and kept you guessing. I was really able to get behind the heroine and root for her. All in all, a very intriguing story that I think the reader will enjoy.
