Sandy-haired, blue-eyed Brian is a computer game designer with a yen to finish a science fiction novel he calls “Star Master of the Universe.” He seeks solitude and inspiration at the local Starbucks, but something… or someone interferes with his ability to concentrate. He doesn’t know her name but she looks pretty hot behind that pink laptop. It’s hard to concentrate on his alpha male, Duke Starmaster, when the scenery is so distracting.
High school poetry teacher Elaine spends her Saturday morning at the local coffee shop working on “Magic Queen of Peaceful Meadows.” Her mind wanders to a future book signing and what she might wear, but she’s stalled with how to proceed with her heroine, Tranquility. Her missing muse may be more interested in the guy with the red laptop across the room than in finishing the third chapter.
When two authors cast stolen glances at one another while trying to finish their novels, sparks fly. Brian finally gets the nerve to speak to Elaine and is amazed to discover she’s an author, too. Her email address written on a napkin leads to a date where he passes her romantic test with flying colors. Another date, collaboration, and a melding of the minds result in a pleasant ending.
I really liked the way Ms. Polo combined a romance within a romance. Not only did I get to experience the emotions of her hero and heroine, I also got a glimpse into the stories they worked on and the romance flourishing there. This was a great touch and a refreshing concept. If you’re looking for a short, entertaining read, this may be it.
Ms. Polo claims to weave reading and writing with relaxation techniques. Her background as an English major, librarian and a yoga instructor certainly meet the requirements, so I have no reason to doubt her. If you want to find out more, check out her website at: http://amberpolo.com.
