Meet Luca, a man that has never known true love of any kind. A man that does not see himself as anything any woman could love. They call him the Jersey Devil, for a reason. He has lived for centuries always searching for that elusive thing called love. Then one night he smells blood in his woods and his life is changed forever.

Now, our lovely heroine Chandra Burke, is a woman that is not afraid to go after what she wants. She has always looked for the beauty beneath the beast in all things. She never would have dreamed she would get the chance to see a real beast. She is a photographer and has always captured the truth in her art. Then after a savage beating from a human monster she will finally get to prove that a Knight in Shining Armor can come in many forms.

This is the story of two people brought together by fate. One a man called the Jersey Devil who feels he is cursed from finding true love, and the other a young woman who feels that curse is a blessing for it saves her life. Luca and Chandra must learn to trust one another if they are going to defeat this curse, especially with an ancient enemy that will do whatever it takes to stop their love.

This is a fantastic story of the power of love and looking below the surface especially if you believe beauty is only skin deep. I loved the characters and the love scenes were hot and spicy. But that is what you can expect from a Ms. Salo love story. The characters drew you to them with the depth of their feelings for one another. The relationship between them could be heart warming and heart wrenching at the same time. You had no choice but to cheer them on. I have only one complaint I never wanted the story to end.

Merry Delaney is a recently widowed accountant. Though alone now, Merry is no stranger to loneliness. She’s been by herself, especially in her bed, for many years, ever since her husband had been diagnosed with a debilitating disease. However, it’s time for her to stop mopping around, and her best friend Camille knows just what Merry needs – sex. And lo and behold, good sex does not necessarily imply a man. Camille, a confirmed bisexual, introduces Merry to the world of Girls’ Night Out.

Detective Jim Barnes does not know Merry Delaney. That is, until an investigation leads him to her. The mob has been using her accountancy skills, unbeknownst to her, to skim money. Jim needs her to help him, and Merry agrees. However, Jim also knows he needs to keep a close eye on Merry. What if she went to the mob and tipped them off? However, he’s in for more than he bargained for, and it is to a long list of sexual dates, both male and female, that he is privy to while in surveillance.

There comes a time when Jim can no longer contain his desire for the adventurous Merry. Merry herself did not imagine she would have such a wild streak. She indulges in her newfound sexual freedom and liberation. Until the day Jim steps into her life as more than a cop, but as a fiery lover. Can the passion between them survive Merry’s need for independence? And what to make of the mob’s escalating threats on her person?

THE MERRY WIDOW is one very merry romp. The heat sizzles and burns off almost every page. Be prepared to need lots of cooling aid when reading this one! However, despite the almost non-ending sexual prowess related in the story, the author does manage to convey a physical and human dimension to the characters. The romance between Merry and Jim is nothing short of sweet, well, okay, if you overlook the sultry blaze that lights up at every encounter.

Definitely a good read, but one that will leave the reader hot, hot, hot!

Jessica Randall is a young widow. Beautiful and strong, she mourns and pays homage to her deceased husband. Though alone, she knows she can make it, and tends to her farm almost single handedly. Jessica is not a recluse, but she isn’t too social either, living at a distance from the nearby town.

Until the stormy night when a man knocks on her door. His name is John Budreau and he is injured. He requests her help, and Jessica acquiesces. However, something else is shared between them, and that is an undeniable attraction.

Jessica allows her woman’s heart to come out of its painful and lonely mourning, and it is with renewed vigor that the same heart now beats for the handsome John. When he decides to stay back for a while as hired hand on her farm, both he and Jessica allow the simmering appeal for each other to gain ground.

They eventually fall in love. Yet, the enigmatic John carries and hides a secret so terrible it would tear the very heart he now cherishes - Jessica’s. Should he reveal his secret, there will be no future for them. And a future with Jessica is precisely what he now yearns for.

Both Jessica and John are very lovable characters. They have both been depicted with flair and humanness. The story reserves some very powerful twists and turns, some of which the reader will not see coming. The eventful dimension of the story however does tend to lag and drag in some instances, and in some places, the recovery is rather lacking. However, all this might be overlooked in the light of Ms. Springer’s particular brand of realistic and very detail-oriented descriptions of historical life.

However, the cost of her freedom has gotten too high and now Emi has decided to buy her way home. She has a huge problem though - Amador.

This story has the makings of a great book; however it now leaves the reader going: “that was too easy”. The author has talent and what details we are given are vividly told.

Jessica Harper is on her way to get married, even though she fears it is to the wrong man. But her love and heart died in a plane crash and now Brad Carlton was gone. Jessica is in for a rude shock and doubts her sanity when the limo driver turns out to be none other than Brad. Now Jessica has to choose between Greg and Brad - Greg who was there when she needed him and Brad who still held the keys to everything including her heart and body.

A quick pick me up, this story has the urge to race to the finish line. Definitely worth a quick read or two. These two stories combined together was a smart move. The first gets you going wanting more and the other takes you home.

Faith, Hope and Chastity by B.J. Franklin

Laws of Nature by Michelle Houston
When you’re a were, you mate for life. What happens if your mate is the quiet and very human guy-next-door?

Hart and Souls by Bethany Michaels
Dealing with ghosts and relocating them – all in a days’ work for a young woman. However, things take a new turn when she finds her perfect man. The catch – he is a ghost.

The Raven’s Curse by Shannon Peters
An Aerian is cursed by a witch to spend his days as a statue. When he finds the woman who can undo this curse, there is only one problem. She thinks he is only a piece of stone.

The Doomsday Incident by Michelle Marquis
He is a prisoner, she is his prison guard. The fight against an alien invasion, however, brings them together.

I admit I have rarely found a book I have devoured as rapidly as I did this one. The stories just flew before me, sapping my control. All I wanted, all I craved, was to read it all.

This, I suppose, can be attributed to the lovely and distinct voices of the authors. One author strikes out above the lot in this respect, and it is B.J Franklin with Faith, Hope and Chastity. Voice alone could have carried this story, and the often funny recounting of a vampire’s existence ran right along the storyline.

Or else, satisfaction can be found in the stories of love in every one of the plots. In this respect, the yearning and feelings of Hart and Souls by Bethany Michaels were heart-wrenching. The depth of emotions can only make the reader root for this couple, hoping against hope that they do find a way for their love to exist. The Raven’s Curse by Shannon Peters also captures the heart. Profoundly human characters grab your attention and a part of your soul as their own souls meet. One Way to Venice by Rusty Wicks nearly tore my heart with its bitter-sweet agony. The pain and sadness of the characters all but tears your soul. Yet, Ms. Wicks provides hope and a promise of a new future. Laws of Nature by Michelle Houston provided a strikingly ‘normal’ setting for the paranormal premise of her story. In a way, the love story she pens makes it even more credible and appealing.

Action and suspense were always around the corner too. The Doomsday Incident by Michelle Marquis captures this premise really well. The unlikely pair is brought together in a really realistic way which leaves no doubt in the mind. Destiny’s Star by J.T. Schultz also captures adventure and drama, heightening the pulse as the story progresses.

All in all, every story carried its own brand of magic. Magic of the storyline, and magic of the authors’ writing. It is one book I would recommend to everyone looking for a good time, an escape from reality, and also to anyone who wants to witness the magic of love happen across places, planes, and between unique individuals. Of course, the scorching sex scenes and the blazing heat in every story do help as well. But for once, the heat does not override the story, and is just one part of a bigger whole.

A delightful read! To be highly recommended.

Riana Septimus agrees to marry Antonius Cassius, First Senator of Rome, to grant her father his last, dying wish. She does not love the malicious and cruel man, but is resigned to spending her life as his wife. There will be no love in her life. Well, she will just be like the hundreds of other Roman noblewomen. Until the day her gaze falls on Tan, a gladiator and slave.

Loving a slave, and even bedding one, is considered treason in Ancient Rome. But Riana knows her heart will only belong to the handsome Tan. She convinces Antonius to buy Tan as her personal bodyguard. But in the privacy of her home, Tan becomes her lover, and the husband of her heart.

However, Riana has to marry Antonius, and the man she finds behind the closed doors of their bedchamber is sadistic, cruel, and perverted. Knowing that she is pregnant with Tan’s child, and unwilling to submit to her horribly Machiavellian husband, Riana and Tan escape from Rome. They find refuge with a band of nomads, Anubians who descend from Egypt.

They believe life is shining down on them, but Antonius begs to differ. He will set an example in Rome where his runaway wife and this slave of hers are concerned. Sparing no means to track them down, he unleashes his evil revenge on the couple, sentencing both to fates more atrocious than Hell itself could impose.

I have enjoyed this book. Ms. Springer writes with clarity, and her depictions of Ancient Rome and the life of the times are startling in clarity and descriptions. Realism is poignant, but unfortunately, many of the instances where the cruelty, perversions, and violence of the era were recounted were a bit too shocking and heavy for this reviewer. One would need strong guts to read this book, and the story is not for the faint hearted. The violence was a bit too crude and in your face in certain occasions. This fact makes the book not one that can be recommended as an entertaining read. Still, if you want a taste of Ancient Rome, it is the book for you.

Chloe Cavanaugh looks like the blonde bombshell next door. But under this appearance hides one of the deadliest assassins the US has in its army. Recruited by a secret organization, her codename becomes Cobra. Her mission: kill Alexander “Ross” Blake, within 7 days. Failing the deadline, she herself will become the target.

Ross Blake is a criminal lawyer. He’s been dragged to the coast by a bossy client. The trip will only mean losing precious time he could be using building his case. However, all notions of boredom fly out the window the minute he lays eyes on Chloe.

Chloe was all set to accomplish her mission in record time. But that was before she had her target in her sights. Suddenly, she doesn’t want to kill him. Not yet, anyway. She’ll toy with him beforehand, preferably in bed.

Things quickly heat up between the pair. But when the organization starts to get on Chloe’s back for dallying on her mission, things get even hotter. Ross, for the life of him, cannot resist this sexy temptress, the woman he’s been looking for all his life. He believes she will be the death of him. Little does he know how right he is...

Ms. Templar uses writing as a way of making her fantasies come to life. The eroticism present in her words is the mark of a rebellious nature. However, she reconciles it all by penning down her highly charged stories.

I am not a big fan of suspense. Still, the blurb for this book caught my eye. In for a penny, in for a pound, I thought. Well, let me tell you the read rendered more than a pound’s worth. Much, much more. Ms. Templar seems to have brought together all of the elements present in top movies of the genre lately and combined it all in one sultry read. 'Charlie’s Angels' meets 'Kill Bill' meets 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith'.

What astounded me more and what won me over completely was the portrayal of Chloe and the progression of her own persona throughout the progression of the plot. Will Chloe fall in love? Will Ross break through her hard shell? Will Chloe eventually bend more to Ross than to her mission? The emotions and the suspense and sheer waiting were pure torture, but any book lover will tell you this is the sweetest torture for a reader. Ms. Templar kept me enthralled.

This is the story to read if you want good stuff.

Being a modern woman is not easy in these trying times especially if you are really new to the world and have a mission of saving the world and are connected to six fantastic guys. In PEACEKEEPER II: THE GATES OF LIFE, Ms. England brings further along the adventures of the nymph Kira and six chosen: Gallegar - a vampire, Lucas Kane - a shapeshifter, Danolas - a witch, Patrick - a shade, Benjamin Cassidy - a suprahuman, and Koran - a faerie and Kira's brother.

Kira has figured out more about life and it challenges. While trying to figure out why the gates of heaven and hell are closed turning San Francisco in into limbo-land for souls awaiting their end reward, she must also sort out new feelings and emotions about two of her chosen. Is it love or lust, and will Gallegar and Lucas understand enough not to lose sight of their mission given to them by the Power, when she makes her final decision? And can she make a decision after seeing what the demons have in store for her and her chosen?

In the end the answer is yes, though failure to communicate and trust by all the chosen almost allow evils to win and turn the world into a perpetual hell. It is only when Lucus, Gallager, Kira and the rest of the chosen begin to understand the power of true love and its ability to be their ultimate weapon in the a battle for all the souls in the world does hope rein free again.

Ms. England, in this story has created the ultimate mind candy, skillfully blending together fantasy, romance, love and perils of the evil reborn. Added to the mix is her visual descriptivism that is so real you can almost taste the strawberries. Great second story for the series.

Let me tell you about a girl named Callie - A young woman who has never known any real love in her life but who has always hungered for it. She is not afraid of hard work because she likes to feel useful. It makes her feel like she belongs somewhere. All she has ever wanted is to belong. She has a very caring and a giving heart and she has so much love to give but has always drawn back because she is afraid of being hurt. The only one she has ever been able to depend upon is herself. But she wants so much to trust someone with her heart.

Now let me tell you about Jordon. A young man a little too sure of himself or so it would seem. But there could be a little more to him than meets the eye. He is used to women throwing themselves at him. He has started to believe his own publicity. He is a young man who needs to be knocked down a peg or two and Callie is just the girl to do it.

This is the story of two people meeting under circumstances that almost seem to be pre-destined. But things seem to unravel at the seams due to betrayals and misunderstanding and Jordon must change his attitude if he wants to win back Callie’s trust. And it is an uphill battle. He will really have to work this out and convince her he is sorry and that he does love her. But first he will have to admit it to himself.

I really loved this book. I have not cried like this over characters in a long time. This is the kind of book you cannot put down. This is the type of story that really pulls at your heart strings. You seem to be pulled into the story and cannot get out until you reach the outcome. You must know what happens next. Ms. England has again outdone herself. I cannot wait to see what she pulls out of her hat next. It will be a rollercoaster ride, I am sure.

Ms. England is an author who just keeps the books coming and makes you wonder what she is going to do next. She is a great writer with a wicked sense of humor that makes me beg for more.

Let me introduce you to Hannah, a woman in an unbearable situation and who feel she cannot escape it. A woman with a kind and gentle soul who wants so much for someone to treat her with a little kindness and love. A woman who sees an escape, and who just needs the courage to take it.

Now let’s meet Jebaral. This is the kind of man women dream about - kind, gentle, a man with such a sweetness about him that just draws women to him. A man that seems too good to be true. And he is just waiting for the right one to come along.

This is the story of two people who are looking for the same thing. A love to last a lifetime. But first, Hannah will have to get away from the man she fears the most. A man who will stop at nothing to keep her. But her heart yearns for the one who treats her like no one else ever has. And she will stop at nothing to be with the one she dreams about - Jebaral. A man who also has a secret. One he fears will never let her be his. A secret that could tear them apart.

This book has it all, romance, science fiction and adventure...I could not put this book down, I had to finish it. The characters are so compelling. You just had to know what happens next. I loved the interaction between the two characters. The gentleness of the hero made you kind of misty eyed. And the heroine made you feel the same things that she did. The writing in this book was so real it made you look up and wonder and maybe even hope a little.

What can I say about Ms. Mooney besides the fact she is a GREAT author? She is an author with such a vivid storytelling ability. An author who makes you root for her heroes and heroines. An author who makes you cry when the charaters do. It has been awhile since a story has touched me like this and made me cry. And I cannot wait for more.

Meet Fifi, the extraordinary puss of this story. She is naturally lilac-colored, southern (not French as her name implies), and very shrewd. When her former mistress dies, her daughter Caitlin assumes responsibility for the puss. Caitlin intends to find the cat a new owner, but Fifi has plans for Caitlin - and tells her so.

Caitlin Miller owns her own sewing shop, Nips and Tucks, and is quite content with that. She is a talented designer, but has no ambition (or money) to take it further. But there is more to Caitlin Miller than meets the eye. At first glance, she is unassuming, too trusting, and almost adolescent. As the story progresses, she becomes more self-assured, more discerning, and less of a twit (what dear Fifi calls her). But is it enough to keep Leo interested for a lifetime?

Leo ‘the Lion’ Legrand is a very self-proud man - he is impressed with himself and his success. He doesn’t care what he has to do to keep his lucrative status. Everything is up for grabs, especially from a dumpy little seamstress who means nothing to him. But then, the magic happens, as it does in every fairytale - Leo falls in love with Caitlin. Can he improve his basic nature, or will he lose the woman he cares for?

Fifi is worried for her new mistress, so she devises a plan to make her rich. Once Caitlin buys the puss Anne Klein books and a Gucci bag, Fifi will increase Caitlin’s business. And soon, Caitlin has more work than she can handle. But Fifi has bigger plans than that and sets out to make a deal with the owner of The Stylish Silhouette, Leo. As you can imagine, Leo does not take blackmail from a purple, talking cat very well - he rushes to find the cat’s owner and make her sorry. When he meets Caitlin, he develops a plan of his own to benefit from Caitlin’s talent. Can Fifi protect her mistress’s interests and her heart from the big, bad Lion?

While Caitlin is much too sweet and naïve and Leo is predatory and cunning, the pussy cat Fifi is juuust right. This story is told in the way of fairy tales with everything slightly exaggerated, but the solid writing shines throughout. This reader loved all the ‘cat’ puns - they added a bit of tongue-in-cheek word-play that was quite humorous and very clever. The dialogue and plot flow nicely. PUSS IN BOOTS was designed with grown-ups in mind and would make a nice bedtime story! I rate this fairytale a wonderful 4 Enchantments.

DARKE SECRETS by Mikala Ash
Killian is a police officer. On a random call one night, she prevents an attempted murder assault on renowned music composer Michael Darke. Attracted to the musician’s brooding looks and seductive charm, Killian falls under his spell. There is only one hitch - Michael has a lot of secrets, none less concerning Claudia, his sister, and also the woman who wants to kill him. Killian has secrets of her own, but will these be enough in the balance to counter Michael’s dark ones?

RAVEN by Susan M. Sailors
On a visit to Edgar Allan Poe’s college room at the University of Virginia, Lorelei bumps into a handsome, sexy man who answers to the name of Raven. The attraction between them is spell-binding, so much so that a deep relationship forms between them. Raven is a paranormal investigator who hunts ghosts. He feels there is more to his meeting with Lorelei. Outside forces are at work here, and both come to wonder whether love is on the cards, and whether it is Good or Evil that has brought them together.

I was spellbound by these two stories. Both authors write with a distinctive flair, wrapping the reader in a tapestry woven by skillful use of words. Emotions ran rampant, and the heat was up all right.

Ms. Ash distils notes of suspense really well in her dark, almost gothic tale. Yet, the characters shine off the page, and the surprising conclusion she brings to her tale is poignant and leaves the reader gasping with the revelation. Only one thing jarred me here – this story was way too short. I could have read more – and I wanted to actually – but it ended way too soon. Congratulations on leaving me so hungry though, Ms. Ash.

Ms. Sailors created a lively and deeply romantic world. I could almost smell the campus, feel the breeze, see the world she depicted. Her characters also leapt off the page. She also brings a marvelous closure to her tale, one which takes the reader by surprise. The little references she makes to college life also inserted notes of humor in the story. Again, it ended too soon.

I would very much recommend this book. It allows for a very good escape. Yet, there is always this little touch with reality. The authors achieve this with their characters, people you begin to root for from the first page itself.

Jade Lopez cannot take it anymore. There have been one too many fights, one too many hits, in her marriage. Her husband is no longer the man she married. Despite a fierce passion still blazing for him, Jade leaves LA for Florida with their daughter, Isabella.

Gabriel Lopez is not an easy man to live with. A famous musician, he has everything he wants. Until the day Jade leaves with Isabella. It’s his wake-up call. Why are they fighting so much? Why can’t they work on those irreconcilable differences?

Jade and Gabriel still love each other, but the meaning of love has gotten lost along the way. Passion and lust still blazes between them, but how far can steamy sex take a couple? Is there hope for them to mend the pieces of their hanging-by-the-thread relationship?

Ms. Grace blazes with her first novel here, after having published countless short pieces. Rarely has a story captivated me so much. Where most stories end with a couple getting married, LOVING GABRIEL starts when this same "Happily Ever After" setting is shaken on its hinges. The story mingles internal demons, passion, enduring love, and redemption, in a breathtaking flow of narrative. The multicultural dimension given through Jade’s character was a pleasant surprise – another one Ms. Grace handled with an equal dose of mastery. I can sincerely say LOVING GABRIEL is one of the best novels I have read.

So far so good, as the merriment of the wedding kicks off, Hannah’s brother Kirk returns to the ranch from a twelve year absence. Thought to have died during the civil war, Kirk explains that he has been in Europe recovering and learning medicine and skills he would one day need as the head of the ranch. Happy that his son has returned to run the ranch, Big Ernie downplays Hannah’s twelve years of hard work and torment of running the ranch and quickly removes her from the position he had forced her to accept, little knowing his son’s true darker nature and plans - to take over the ranch and sell it as soon as is father is dead, to live a life of a rich sodomite in Europe. But certain events cause his plans to go awry.

Ms. Springer spins an interesting and intriguing web with this historical tale, delving into the darker natures that lurk within us all.

Not normally one for dark tales, I found the book balanced and interesting but not going grossly overboard. Ms. Springer does spin a very interesing tale that flows well and provides a balance of imagery that very few writers of this genre do as well as she.

Let me introduce Kira, a woman wrapped in mystery of an unknown origin. She has an unearthly beauty and innocence. That draws men to her like moths to a flame. But beware, this beauty can sting. She is no pushover.

Now let me introduce Gallegar, a King in his own right. He is more than a match for this fiery beauty. Beloved is the name he calls her and he cannot wait to make her his own.

This is a story about a woman with no past. A woman who has been given a mission that will save the World. The mission is filled with danger, passion, magic, and most of all, love. A love that knows no boundaries. She must fulfill her quest to unite the people of this city. The quest is not an easy one - an evil wizard fights her at every turn. And only the love of the men she binds together can save her and the world.

I thought this was a great book and, I cannot wait to read more of these characters. I loved the beginning of the book - it was so mysterious and otherworldly. The scenes in the different places she had to go were amazing. There were parts where you just had to cheer her on. And others where you just wanted to slap people. But I will let you decide them yourself. All in all, this was a very good book and I hope she hurries up with the other ones.

Rose is very unhappy in her dead-end job at the town diner that’s actually called “The Diner”, and dead-end marriage to the town drunk. As she sees it her dead end life.

Tom runs “Tom’s Market” in Mead, Maine, the little town that Rose ends up in. Tom has insecurities and a pain that only Rose can heal.

In the beginning, Rose is contemplating her life in the small town she lives in and decides to finally take action. She ends up moving to a small town in Maine called Mead where she meets a variety of people but none that hold her interest like Tom. But will the two be able to put their pasts behind them and learn to trust again?

In my honest opinion, THE MEAD STEAD was far too short. The characters of Tom and Rose were just so real and so human – and that is very rare in a romance novel or a novel of any kind these days. I was very happy for them that they got their chance at a new start together, but I was disappointed that it had to end for the readers so soon. Overall, well done, Ms. Wicks, very well done.

Ms. Wicks lives in a little cottage near the beach in Maine. When she’s not busy writing, she reads, walks the beach searching for seashells and driftwood, and takes Chinese language lessons. She spends the rest of her time with a special man who makes her heart thud, even after more years than she’s willing to admit. Ms. Wicks believes in love… and she wants you to believe in it, too.

Lady Isabel is married to an older, very uncaring, devious and abusive Baron. Her widowed mother had bartered Isabel off to the Baron as a way to provide for her other children.

Sir Daniel is the Baron’s nephew and so far his only heir.

When the Baron marries Lady Isabel - he finds he is unable to produce an heir on his own and decides to bring in help. Sir Daniel is invited to his Uncle’s estate to unwittingly play the surrogate. Lady Isabel is ordered by her husband to pretend to be a dream to a drugged Daniel and to seduce him in his sleep over a period of 2 weeks. However, the Baron’s plans go horribly, yet wonderfully, awry.

I found Ms. Winn’s writing to be very intriguing. The characters were easy to understand and it was uncomplicated to get a good feel for their individual situations and predicaments. I really got a good laugh out of some of the scenes and was quite touched by others. This was a very easy light read that I found quite enjoyable.

Author Ms. Winn was born in Kansas, has lived in both Hawaii and California, but happily considers North Carolina her home state. She won the Eppie for the best electronically published historical romance in 2003 and was a finalist in this contest in 2007 for the best erotic historical romance.

This book contains two short stories, LABOR OF LOVE and LOST LOVE.

LABOR OF LOVE is a sweet tale of an older woman and younger man who find love and comfort in each other. Savannah Michaels has lived a life of lonely solitude. She found love as a younger woman, but the war took her fiancé from her. When Cody Brooks arrives at her door, looking to be a temporary laborer on her farm, she is shocked at the reaction her body has to him. She hasn't felt like this since her fiancé's death.

Cody is captivated at the first sight of Savannah. She is everything he has been looking for in a woman even though he is twenty years her junior and inexperienced. Cody starts to work for Savannah and she becomes his teacher in many things, including the art of making love. As Savannah and Cody's relationship and feelings grow, it becomes easier to forget the age difference. But this is 1927, and people will talk. Then Savannah becomes pregnant. Will that be the end of their dreams or just the beginning?

LOST LOVE is an erotic story about a Philadelphia police detective and his wife. Ryan Williams and Kendall Egan met and fell in love in college. After being married for six years, Kendall can longer take Ryan's job; she is terrified that one day he won't make it home and she will get 'that' knock on the door. A phone call from a mobster threatens her life and Kendall leaves without a word and sues for divorce. The divorce devastates Ryan, but he can't give up being a cop.

Three years pass and the mobster case has finally made it to trial. Ryan gives testimony for three days, then he and his partner are kidnapped from the front steps of the courthouse. His partner is killed; he is tortured and left for dead. When Kendall hears the news, all she can think of is that she wasted three years of time that she could have had with him. As Ryan recovers, his thoughts center on the only woman he has ever loved. Can these two be reunited and find happiness again? Can Kendall look past Ryan's career or will their happiness be destroyed again by Ryan's job?

I was a bit disappointed in the first story. As a big fan of Ms. Poff (THE REBIRTH OF RACHEL is a must-read), it did not seem to have her usual attention to detail - the dialogue felt stilted and the sex scenes, although frequent, seemed lackluster. With that said, it is a bittersweet story with heart-warming characters and is not to be missed. The tenderness between Savannah and Cody was deep and humbling. The plot was very original, keeping my attention and making me want to know more, while the ending startled this reader. I give this story 3 Enchantments.

The characters in the second story were fuller, with rich, complex personalities. My emotions were engaged from the very start, jumping from delighted to exasperated to sorrowful and back many times in this brief romance. This reader felt like she was experiencing the story along with the characters instead of just being told a narrative of what happened. The sex between the characters was lush and imaginative. The secondary characters had interesting roles, and added to the emotional element of the story. This story gets 4 Enchantments from me, for a combined rating of 3.5 Enchantments for THE JOY OF LOVE.
